Neighbourly Whiskey Bar

“The Wild Rover is your local Surry Hills neighbourhood bar. A swashbuckling, foot stomping, riotous escape from pomp, it’s designed as if it had always existed, but has only recently been found. An Irish folk barn crossed with New York chic set in an unassuming clothing house, hidden from street view.”

The first time I came across this bar it was by accident when I spotted someone walking out of the door whilst walking past. Such a hidden gem that's dimly lit and filled with a great atmosphere. A night cap brings me back with my brother @plus1guest. I chose the Jungle Boy cocktail ($17) with Bulleit rye whisky, campari, lime juice & pineapple syrup which I really enjoy. My brother goes for the Pisco Punch cocktail ($18) with pisco, pampero blanco rum, lime juice, homemade pineapple syrup & bubbles which tastes a little less boozy but still well liked. Freshly shucked oysters from Le Petite Waterfall Batemans Bay ($18, 6 oysters) have noticeable brine and seemed shucked to order as hoped. The shucking presentation of some of the oysters are bit rough around the edges but a squeeze of lemon and a few drops of the tabasco is oyster heaven for the palate. If you come before 6 pm they're advertised as only $1 each. There's upstairs seating when opened and the food menu is quite limited. Lovers of whiskey should be able to find a worthy drop from their extensive range.
